Elizabeth and Jonathan Bartholomew were newlyweds in graduate school when they bought their 1951 cape six years ago and set about renovating it.

Two kids later, they are selling the Manchester house and planning to move in with Elizabeth’s parents nearby to save to build a larger home in Bolton, Marlborough or Glastonbury.

The house was in great shape but dated when they bought it from the original owner, who was in her 90s, according to Elizabeth.

“The first weekend we were in there we tore up the shag carpeting that was over the hardwood floors,” Elizabeth said. They restored all the hardwood floors and took down all the wallpaper some of it aqua with gold teacups and painted the rooms with lighter and brighter colors.

The renovations became a family affair, with Elizabeth’s parents and her brother and sister-in-law helping.

Egypt has seen an increase in interest from British overseas homebuyers, while interest in the UAE due to developers in the region failing to target potential buyers in the UK, according to a new list.

According to London-based TheMoveChannel.com’s Top of the Props latest rankings, the three biggest investment locations favoured by British overseas homebuyers were Spain, the US and France.

Within the Arab world, the UAE has remained unmoved at number 19, while Egypt has seen a surge in interest and has shot up ten spaces to 18th place.

“While the UAE has shown tentative signs of an upturn in activity, there has so far been a reluctance from agents and developers in the region to renew the long-distance international threads of their marketing activity,” Dan Johnson, managing director of TheMoveChannel.com, said of the UAE’s low placing on the list.

“For this reason, European media have not benefited from increased advertising spend from Arabian property companies, the knock on effect being that easily-distracted buyers have their attention elsewhere.

“One such destination is Egypt, where in spite of some political unrest in the last 12 months, agents and developers have continued to drive interest in Egyptian property. The avail

The north-east of Brazil currently represents one of the five best property investment opportunities in the world, according to the new Global Real Estate Index.

The report lists the 27 best real estate markets in the world based on factors such as value for money, appreciation potential and ease of buying, as well as weather, tax favourability, cost of living and community.

It found that north-east Brazil presents excellent investment opportunities, as the region satisfies many of these social and lifestyle requirements and is steadily increasing in popularity as a result.

The economy in the area is particularly strong, of with over $6 billion being invested in tourism and infrastructure here in the lead-up to the 2014 football World Cup, while its location also makes it a convenient hub for US and European investors.

Both the short- and long-term rental potential in the era, combined with the proliferation of business and leisure developments, means that the popularity of north-east Brazil as an investment will only continue to rise, the report estimated.

It was the perfect location walking distance to West Hartford Center and Beth’s job at the state Office of the Attorney General in Hartford’s West End.

Then she met and married John Cherubino, who not only fell in love with her, but the vintage house they would work so hard to restore.

Now they have 2-year-old twins, John and Dea, and have since bought a larger home in Granby with more land.
